Sensemaking Studio is a small group program to explore and shape your creative and reflective practice alongside max. 6 like-minded Sense Makers.

It doesn’t matter whether you have a reflective practice which you want to deepen or whether this all feels quite new to you.

Sensemaking Studio is a place to start and a place to cultivate.

This program is the mid-year Sensemaking Studio and we’ll be meeting over the course of 4 months between June and September 2024. The time of our live online gatherings works well for anyone in Europe, Asia or Australia.

  • We’ll be meeting live in the online studio for a total of 7 hours

  • You’ll receive 3 email/ video invitations in-between our studio sessions

  • I’ll share additional resources and e-guides created to inspire, support and keep you going.

We don’t learn from experience, we learn from reflecting on experience.
— John Dewey, How We Think

As images often say more than 1000 words… have a look at some impressions of my reflective practice and how arts-based processes enhance it.

These are some impressions of my own arts-based reflective practice. What might yours look like?

Sensemaking Studio might be for you if any of this feel familiar:

  • You have a limitless curiosity for inner growth and want a reflective practice to support this.

  • You know yourself pretty well but you’re looking for ways to go a little deeper or learn things about yourself that have stayed hidden.

  • There seems to be an invisible force or a recurring pattern that leads to similar experiences, and you want to make sense of this experience.

  • You know where you want to go or what you’d like to accomplish, and you’d like a process that helps you track progress, notice what’s working well and what could be easier.

  • The idea of a regular journaling practice appeals but you find it hard to keep going or feel that you’re ‘writing in circles’ without getting to know yourself differently or changing things.

Sensemaking Studio is the place to help you get started or refine your reflective practice.

We will meet 4 times, between June and September, online & live, starting on 24 June and finishing on 30 September. In-between our shared reflective sessions you will receive further reflective prompts via email.

Our small group is a place of intimate sharing, mutual care and support, and celebrations of new insights uncovered in our shared process.

We will use creative and arts-based processes to support our reflections, but no experience in artmaking or with specific materials/ techniques is required. Journaling and reflective writing will be part of Sensemaking Studio, and we’ll weave other techniques into your practice.

You can tailor this program to what you prefer or are curious about, from writing to taking photos with your phone, art journaling to collecting natural objects, collage to poetry. And more… and a mix of everything.

What a regular reflective practice gives you

  • An opportunity to notice the small details as well as the broader landscape of your life.

  • A way to gain clarity and spot patterns over time.

  • A place to make progress visible, whether it’s slow and steady or comes in bursts.

  • A reminder of what you have accomplished.

With these insights, you can create the conditions for meaning, success, change, joy, rest, connection… whatever it is you seek more of.

There’s no right or wrong approach to a reflective practice. For it to become a good companion you have to experiment and work out what works for you. Sensemaking Studio offers a place to do just that, in the company of others and with my guidance.

Our live sessions will cover

  • The setting of your intentions for the program: what is your vision for a reflective practice, what are you building on and which areas of life could benefit from deeper reflection.

  • The phases of the creative process and which ones are easy for you and where you might get stuck – because your unique creative process is not limited to artmaking. It also shapes how you imagine and then realise new ideas and possibilities.

  • Themes that will run alongside this practice are playfulness, curiosity, noticing and responding to your own rhythm, how you move from reflection to action, looking for patterns.

  • I believe that any reflective practice needs to be informed and shaped around our experience. Therefore, I’m building flexibility into this offer as it will inevitably be informed by the unique group that will be gathering for program.

Our schedule

Welcome Video – you will receive this at the end of May (or, if you register after the end of May, upon booking your spot).

In this video, I will explain in more detail what to expect, how to prepare and what to bring. There won’t be a need for specific art materials; each session and invitation can be tailored to what you have or what you love working with. But I will talk a little about materials you might like to explore or how you might want to set up your space and get ready for this year-long reflective studio practice.

Our live sessions take place on Mondays.

Our first and last session will be 2 hours long, the July and August live sessions are 1.5 hours.

Each session starts at 9.00am BST (London)/ 10.00am CEST (Paris)/ 4.00pm AWST (Perth) / 6.00pm AEST (Melbourne).

  • Session 1 – our first gathering: 24 June 2024, 9.00-11.00am BST/ 6.00-8.00pm AEST

  • Session 2: 22 July 2024, 9.00-10.30am BST/ 6.00-7.30pm AEST

  • Session 3: 19 August 2024, 9.00-10.30am BST/ 6.00-7.30pm AEST

  • Session 4 – closing reflection: : 30 September 2024, 9.00-11.00am BST/ 6.00-8.00pm AEST

Reflective invitations and prompts via email:

  • Welcome video and materials – to be sent on 31 May or upon registration if you sign up after this date.

  • The email prompts will be sent on 8 July, 5 August, 9 September 2024.

  • They may offer you a reading, poetry, a writing prompt, a reflective or creative invitation. I’m leaving this intentionally open because I believe that any group co-creates a shared space and experience – there needs to be room for these invitations to respond to what’s coming up in and for the group.

  • Throughout the program, you can of course email me with any questions you may have around an invitation.

Additional resources:

  • My e-guide to help you think about possible art materials and how you might plan for this 4-month practice.

  • My e-guide on found poetry as a reflective practice.

  • For missed sessions, you will receive the creative invitation we worked with via email, and you can of course get in touch with questions if needed.
